Brian X. Foley
Seems Supervisor Foley
takes pleasure in side-stepping issues that he himself
has brought to the surface. Issues concerning the noise
that plagues the neighboring homes to the Suffolk Trap
and Skeet, for example.
Several months ago,
within a meeting of the South Yaphank Civic Association,
of which Supervisor Foley was the key speaker, he stated
that he has given the county 30 days to come up with a
viable plan for sound mitigation and that he has a high
level meeting with county members planned for the next
day. Following this statement, a concerned resident and
member of the association asked of Supervisor Foley:
"Supervisor Foley, if
after using all the information tools we have given you
tonight, you determine that the county is not going to
move forward and mitigate the sound to come into
compliance, will you utilize your powers as a
commissioner on the Pine Barrens Commission to assert
jurisdiction."
His
response to a group of over 50 civic members was a
confident one word answer…
"Yes!"
Over 300 days has passed,
10 times the 30 days promised. News comes to us now that
the sound mitigation plans that the county came up with
is to stack hay bails and spend over $35,000 of your tax
dollars on sound material along the shooting walls that
they already spent over $50,000.00 on past sound study
reports that state these actions will not work!
Aside from the obvious
fact that bails of hay will not reduce the pulsating
sounds emanating from a gun, and the fact that it will
attract mice and rats and cause a foul odor when wet,
this proposal was originally turned down by the Pine
Barren's Commission, long before the trap and skeet
re-opened. Recent news articles show Steve Levy planning
to pull any unspent funds targeted for sound mitigation
to use for other pet projects on his agenda.
The question that now
begs to be asked: "Is Supervisor Foley really trying to
help the residents of South Yaphank?"
